What Does Patchouli Smell Like?

What is Patchouli?

Patchouli, or Pogostemon cablin, is an aromatic flowering plant. This plant grows in a bush up to three feet tall. It originated in the tropical climes of South Asia. Patchouli oil is derived from the leaves of the patchouli plant.

To produce patchouli oil, the plant's leaves and stems are harvested and dried out. Then, a distillation process is conducted in order to extract the essential oil. This essential oil is known to have many anti-inflammatories.

Rustic Charm uses a phthalate free fragrance oil derived from the patchouli essential oil.

So, what does Patchouli smell like and what does it pair well with?

Patchouli is part of the mint family; however, patchouli contains a strong smell that most people consider more musk-like. Since it is so strong, it’s popular in candles, as well as many different products; including perfumes, make-ups, detergents and more.

Because it goes well with so many products, it pairs well with many scents too. Patchouli can be paired with scents ranging from lighter floral or citrus scents, to deep, woody scents like sandalwood.
